New Disability Commissioner: Wheelmap campaign for greater accessibility

Since May 2023, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has been committed to inclusion and accessibility with its own municipal disability officer. Miriam Drüppel has now been succeeded by Alexandra Köck as the new municipal Disability Officer, who will start her new role by inviting people to an innovative Wheelmap campaign on 29 April together with the Inclusion Officer of the town of Korbach.

Making wheelchair-accessible places visible
The aim of the campaign is to make wheelchair-accessible places in Waldeck-Frankenberg visible on an online platform and to rate publicly accessible places in terms of their accessibility. To this end, the district and town are jointly inviting all interested parties to take part in the campaign - regardless of whether they have a disability or not.

The meeting point is at 10 a.m. at the Korbach community centre. "Accessibility or lack of accessibility should be recorded and visualised in this way," says Thomas Ebert, Inclusion Officer for the city of Korbach. Ideas for improving accessibility will also be exchanged and developed. For better planning, please register by 11 April on 05631 954-1625 or by email.

"Shaping our region more inclusively together"
"This campaign is a perfect start to my new role," says the new municipal disability officer Alexandra Köck from the Women and Equal Opportunities Department, who has taken over the position from Miriam Drüppel, who will be devoting more time to setting up an advice centre for queer people in future. In her new role, Alexandra Köck, who was previously Miriam Drüppel's deputy, will continue and expand the successful projects of the Barrier-free Living model region. "The Wheelmap campaign combines practical commitment with awareness-raising and shows how we can work together to make our region more inclusive," emphasises Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor of the district.

In addition to activities such as these, the municipal disability officer will continue to advise people with disabilities, represent their interests to the administration and politicians and coordinate inclusion measures throughout the district. A special focus will also be placed on networking the municipal inclusion and disability representatives. Further information is also available online.
