Foundation stone laid for new Studium Plus building in Frankenberg

The dual study programme Studium Plus of the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen and the CompetenceCenter Duale Hochschulstudien - StudiumPlus e.V. in Frankenberg is getting a new building. The foundation stone was recently laid for the campus in the heart of Frankenberg.

A four-storey building in hybrid construction - i.e. made of wood, concrete and steel - will be built, in which study and administrative operations will take place on two levels. The new building will offer new, modern and needs-orientated rooms for up to 200 students and an additional 25 flats for students and other private tenants on two further levels. The concrete skeleton construction is due to be completed in the autumn, after which the assembly of the timber construction will begin. The building is due to be completed and handed over to the district in August 2026.

As part of the symbolic laying of the foundation stone, which was attended by FingerHaus and district representatives as well as representatives of the Technical University of Central Hesse, StudiumPlus and the town of Frankenberg, a time capsule was filled together, which is not embedded in the foundation walls, but is positioned behind a glass panelling in the wall in the entrance area so that it is clearly visible at all times. In addition to a brief history of the site on Uferstrasse, it also contains a current daily newspaper, loose change and a letter from District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese to future generations. In it, they emphasise: "This new building will not only create a needs-based and sustainable infrastructure - but above all an investment in the future of our young people in Waldeck-Frankenberg. We are convinced that this project will help to keep young talent in our region - and offer them the best study conditions here locally. With the new building, we are strengthening the university location and creating optimal conditions for modern teaching."

The construction project is being realised as a public-private cooperation project, or PPP model for short. PPP stands for "Public Private Partnership" and means that a private company plans, constructs and finances the building and also operates it. In this case, FingerHaus GmbH from Frankenberg was awarded the contract following a Europe-wide tendering process. In this case, the district is renting the building for 25 years to house the Frankenberg site of the Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences.
