CITY CYCLING 2025: Start on 1 June with a rally
This year's CITY CYCLING in Waldeck-Frankenberg starts on 1 June, with a short rally to Edertal-Bergheim to the bike park in the Ederauen. Following the rally, a family festival will be held there to encourage participation. The family festival starts at 10 am and ends at 5 pm, organised by the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg and the national park community of Edertal.
First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese says: "We were delighted to take the opportunity to launch the CITY CYCLING programme at the family festival around the Edertal Bike Park." Together with the national park community of Edertal, some of the offers were deliberately designed to be inclusive. After all, participation is very important for the district and the national park community. A transport service can therefore also be organised for people with disabilities.
Mayor Frederik Westmeier adds: "We look forward to welcoming many cyclists to our beautiful national park community of Edertal for the kick-off event of CITY CYCLING 2025." Everyone is cordially invited to take part in the family festival in the Ederauen. Under the motto "Leisure and exercise offers", guests can expect many different activity and information stands on 1 June and there will also be plenty of food and drink on offer. The Bad Wildungen police will also be on hand to code bicycles and e-scooters. Anyone interested is asked to register in advance for coding by calling 05621 7090-35.
The STADTRADELN kick-off event and family festival will take place whatever the weather. All tours of the rally to the bike park in the Ederauen have been selected so that they can also be easily mastered by children and young people. Participation is at your own risk - all bikes must be equipped in accordance with road traffic licensing regulations and helmets are compulsory.
Meeting points for the rally in each Edertal village, the GPS data for the tours and more detailed information on the family festival and CITY CYCLING are summarised in a flyer and can be accessed online. The flyers are available free of charge from towns and municipalities and the district.
The cycle tours are the start of the competition of the international Climate Alliance campaign CITY CYCLING, in which the district is taking part for the fourth time in a row, for the first time even with all towns and municipalities. Registration for the three-week cycling period is now open. The aim is to cycle as many kilometres as possible, record them with the app and thus improve cycling, protect the climate and do something good for your own health. All cycling fans are cordially invited to take part.
Anyone who lives, works, attends school or is a member of an association in Waldeck-Frankenberg can take part in the competition. Interested parties can register for their local authority at www.stadtradeln.de, join a team or set up their own team.
The kilometres cycled are recorded via an app or online on the website; they can also be submitted to the district by hand. The teams that have cycled the most kilometres will receive a prize from the district at an award ceremony - an additional incentive to take part. In addition to our own health, however, the focus of the competition is on our environment, which is to be protected by the frequent switch from car to bike.

With this international competition, Climate Alliance invites everyone to pedal and set an example for the promotion of cycling. The aim is to raise awareness of cycling in everyday life and to bring bicycle use and cycle traffic planning more strongly into local parliaments.
Climate Alliance
For over 30 years, the member municipalities of the Climate Alliance have been working with their indigenous partners from the rainforests to protect the global climate. With almost 2,000 members from more than 25 European countries, it is the world's largest city network for climate protection.
State of Hesse
The state of Hesse covers the costs of participation in the city cycling programme for all Hessian municipalities and districts. The objective of the campaign corresponds to the goals of the state-wide local mobility strategy. The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) Hessen also supports the campaign.
