STADTRADELN 2025 awards presented
Almost 639,000 kilometres cycled, 7th place in Hesse for the total number of kilometres in the corresponding district category... the results of this year's CITY CYCLING in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg are impressive, much to the delight of the organising team for the great commitment and the remarkable response. The district has now honoured the most successful teams, schools, municipalities and individual cyclists for their outstanding achievements at an award ceremony. In addition to certificates and non-cash prizes, there was much applause for all those who set an example for sustainable mobility through their participation. All results can be viewed on the district's website www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de under the keyword "Stadtradeln 2025".
First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese praised the strong commitment shown by citizens in the CITY CYCLING event: "Cycling protects the climate, keeps you fit and strengthens the community. The commitment of all participants shows that our district is actively contributing to climate protection and that cycling is becoming increasingly important." A total of 2,646 cyclists from the 21 district municipalities took part this year, covering a combined distance of 638,409 kilometres. This meant that around 105 tonnes of CO₂ were avoided - a strong result that underlines the dynamism of cycling in the region.
Martha Schweizer, the district's local mobility coordinator, emphasised the extremely positive outcome once again: "Behind every route travelled is a conscious decision in favour of environmentally friendly transport. It's great to see how many people took part with enthusiasm and ambition - from school classes to companies and individuals."

Background: CITY CYCLING, a campaign organised by the Climate Alliance, is held annually throughout Germany and is becoming increasingly popular. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has been taking part in the campaign since 2022 and has set new records this year.
Outlook: The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg will once again be taking part in CITY CYCLING in 2026. The cycling period is from 4 - 24 June 2026 and there will be a kick-off event in Frankenberg on 4 June. The district is already calling on all citizens to get on their bikes more often in everyday life - for health, the environment and a more liveable region.
