Free rickshaw hire for social institutions
The "Rediscover cycling TOGETHER" project has been running in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district since spring. In this project, the state of Hesse, together with the Hesse Local Mobility Working Group (AGNH) and with the support of "Radeln ohne Alter Deutschland e.V.", provides social institutions such as retirement homes with bicycle rickshaws for communal cycling. The aim of the campaign is to enable senior citizens and people with limited mobility to be more mobile and participate in society. The district supports the programme with its local mobility coordinators as intermediaries.
In Waldeck-Frankenberg, two rickshaws are available until the end of the year for shared journeys between volunteer drivers and their mobility-impaired passengers. They were in use at the "Haus Ederaue" retirement home in Edertal-Giflitz and the "Am Laupark" residential and care park in Bad Wildungen until the end of June. One of the vehicles has changed location - the Philipp Soldan town of Frankenberg can now be explored by rickshaw.
As a strong signal for more participation and quality of life in old age, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has now organised an additional training course in cooperation with the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) Waldeck-Frankenberg e.V. to train volunteer drivers in the safe use of a rickshaw. Institutions in Frankenberg that are interested in using the rickshaw can contact the ADFC with immediate effect to organise free rides. The offer is primarily aimed at care facilities, retirement homes or other social organisations that would like to offer their residents special excursions. Interested parties can contact the ADFC by e-mail or by telephone on 0171-5348930.
