School route safety

  • Performance specification

Children are among the weakest road users and therefore deserve our special consideration. Primary school children - especially those starting school - are particularly at risk in road traffic. Traffic accidents often happen because the children are not yet up to the demands of today's traffic conditions. Although the safe way to school is an integral part of the lessons at school, it should be practised with the children at an early stage. Caregivers should always set a good example and observe the traffic rules - also as pedestrians - because children learn more through their exemplary behaviour than through constant instructions and admonitions.

School route plans are developed in the schools, and bus, pupil and parent guides can be set up.

  • What else should I know?

Traffic education at school takes place in cooperation with the Landesverkehrswacht Hessen and the Unfallkasse Hessen (UKH). As the statutory accident insurance institution, the UKH is responsible for accidents on the way to school.

Who do I need to contact?

The road traffic authority or the public order office is the contact for all questions concerning the road traffic regulations (StVO) and is responsible for all traffic regulations as well as for checking the safety of school routes.
