New administration building: Laying of the foundation stone with time capsule

Construction work on Korbach's Südring is progressing: in order to create new premises for the specialist services of health, youth and social affairs, the district has been building a new administrative building next to the district hall since March this year. In a small gathering, the official foundation stone for the building was ceremoniously laid.

In the course of the execution of the shell construction work, this tradition should not be dispensed with - even in Corona times - which took place a few weeks ago in a small group of participants, observing the Corona rules. A time capsule was also bricked into the shell: The soldered copper tube contains a newspaper from the day the foundation stone was laid, construction drawings of the new building and a few coins. They will serve as time witnesses for future generations.

By the end of the year, the structural work on the building should be completed. At the beginning of next year, the installation of the timber frame elements of the exterior façade will begin. At the same time, the windows will be installed and then the interior work will begin. Completion of the construction is planned for the end of next year, so that the specialised services can move into the new building at the beginning of 2023.

It will provide around 180 new workplaces for the staff of the administration, which has grown significantly in recent years. In the past, external office space had to be rented in Korbach and Frankenberg and the surrounding area to cover the space requirements. The new administration building on Südring will help to relieve this burden.

The building will be constructed as a hybrid building: A reinforced concrete supporting structure with a curtain-type wooden façade will then house floor-to-ceiling wood-aluminium windows. Since sustainability also plays a special role here, the district has opted for heating by means of an air-source heat pump, which will supply the rooms with heat via underfloor heating. On the flat roof of the three-storey building, extensive greenery and a photovoltaic system will be installed, the electricity generated from which will be used, among other things, for the district's own power supply. According to current plans, the district will invest about 16 million euros in the new building.
