Registration for 2nd prioritisation group possible

Up to 1.5 million people belong to prioritisation group 2 according to the vaccination ordinance that applies nationwide. In Hesse, these vaccination-eligible persons can register for the personal Corona vaccination since 23 February 2021. Due to more vaccine doses, different vaccines and the great heterogeneity of the second vaccination group, registered persons willing to be vaccinated will be assigned appointments in the future. Those who do not wish to accept the proposed appointment can also rebook their appointment in the future. The first vaccinations for group 2 in Hesse will begin as early as 5 March 2021.

Minister of the Interior Peter Beuth and Minister of Social Affairs Kai Klose declared: "Hesse is ready for the next vaccination group. With the opening of registration for group 2, up to 1.5 million people will get a vaccination perspective in Hesse. All members of the second highest prioritisation group according to the nationwide vaccination ordinance will receive an appointment. We have simplified the procedure. In future: tell us by registration that you want to be vaccinated and we will invite you. We can start with the second group now because we have more vaccines available and because we have made good progress with people in group 1, who need protection from the virus the most."

  • Who can register for vaccination now?

All persons named in §3 of the Corona Vaccination Ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Health can register. Basically, the entitlement can be derived from age, health or occupational reasons. Because the second vaccination group is very heterogeneous, the number of people eligible for vaccination can only be estimated: Up to 1.5 million people could fall under the provision in Hesse. "The second prioritisation group means opening up vaccination to the broader population," the health minister notes.

You can find the exact wording of the vaccination ordinance with the names of those entitled here .

  • How do I get an appointment?

Those who belong to group 2 and would like to be vaccinated only have to register in the future. This can be done via the online portal or the hotline. In addition, the vaccine and dates will be allocated by the state. "Currently we have three vaccines available, but they are not approved for all in group 2 at the moment. Although we are now getting more doses, the delivery figures are only reliable for a few weeks. Therefore, the nationwide vaccination coordination must continue to be able to react flexibly to changing conditions. Our goal is to ensure that as many people as possible can receive their Corona vaccination as quickly as possible. That is why we have further developed the scheduling procedure for the second vaccination group," said Minister of the Interior Peter Beuth.

"All those in the second group who want to be vaccinated should register promptly. On the one hand, because additional vaccine may be available at short notice. On the other hand, this gives the state of Hesse and the vaccination centres an early overview to coordinate supply and demand. The federal government's specifications for the three vaccines currently determine who can receive which one," explained Health Minister Kai Klose. "In addition, the following applies quite fundamentally: make use of the vaccination offer. Every vaccinated person more means more protection for all of us," Klose appealed.

The existing system of online portal and telephone hotline is still available. Those who register there as of today will automatically receive the appointments for first and second vaccinations by post or by e-mail. If the proposal does not fit or a couple's appointment is preferred, rebookings can be made online at any time or by telephone every day between 8 am and 8 pm. The state of Hesse does not determine who gets their appointment and when. Basically, the allocation of appointments within the prioritisation group runs through the allocation software according to age, the random principle and is always based on the available vaccination doses.
