Network for Tolerance invites young people to the theatre project

"Leaving everything as it is is not an option" - under this motto, the Network for Tolerance Waldeck-Frankenberg and STATT-Theater Mengeringhausen e. V. invite all theatre enthusiasts aged 16 to 24 with and without previous experience to a theatrical youth project. The event will take place under the current Corona rules. "Can good intentions make up for a lack of understanding? Does racism need intention? Where does prejudice begin? And what might also just be happening in our heads?" are the questions under which young people are to try out tolerance and democratic attitudes through theatre.

The aim is to stage a play around the exhibition "Out of the Box - Racism" and perform it in the district at various locations. The premiere is planned for 28 May 2022. Under the guidance of the director Patrizia Schuster and the actor Thomas Hof, an episodic play will be developed that will shed light on the topics of racism, tolerance and prejudice from different perspectives. Options for action are shown, and one's own mental carousel is stimulated again and again.

"When the world outside already seems hopelessly lost, we try to turn things around theatrically. Because leaving everything as it is is not an option," says Patrizia Schuster. Based on texts by Janne Teller and Jonas Hassem Khemiri, the ensemble members are invited to contribute their own experiences and thoughts on the topic for theatrical realisation in a writing workshop. Another component of the project will be a percussion workshop with a musician and composer.

On 26 February 2022, there will be a first online kick-off and get-to-know-you workshop from 10:30 - 17:00. With theatre pedagogical exercises that are fun and make you want more, an ensemble will be formed that will develop and rehearse a performance in monthly meetings from March to May. Rehearsals take place once a month in the theatre shop of the STATT Theatre in Mengeringhausen. Registrations are accepted by the project coordinators of the Network for Tolerance, Ursula Müller at e-mail ursula.mueller@lkwafkb.de and Violetta Bat at e-mail violetta.bat@lkwafkb.de.
