"Rhena Lime": New Geostation in the GrenzWelten

Anyone who visits the festival and barbecue site in the Korbach district of Rhena for a convivial get-together will also see a special geological feature: the "Rhena limestone". An imposing steep face towers over the site on the side facing away from the road, made visible by regular maintenance of the lush plant growth in front of it. What exactly makes this effort worthwhile, what "stony" treasure would otherwise be hidden there high above the festival site, is now informed by the latest geostation of the Border Worlds National Geopark.

The "Rhena Limestone" offers visitors an exciting insight into the geological heritage from the Lower Carboniferous period about 350 million years ago. Reason enough for Rhena's local chief Friedrich Bunte to propose an information board to make this knowledge accessible to all those interested. Geopark and the town of Korbach were happy to take up the initiative - they developed a geostation that informs about the special features of the Rhena limestone while illustrating the underlying formation mechanism.

The Rhena limestone was exposed by quarrying activities that were carried out here in the past. Today, the exposed rocks represent an important outcrop with an exciting history of formation, so they are just the right location for a GeoStation. And not only from a geoscientific perspective: as a designated geological natural monument, the former quarry is optimally connected to cycling and hiking trails, and various seating areas invite visitors to linger. An ideal destination for an excursion on foot or by bike!
