District undertakes traffic safety measures on the K22

The bicycle and footpath on the K22 between Nieder-Werbe and Scheid is very popular with cyclists on warm days. Unfortunately, the last few weeks of rain have caused a "slope break", a tearing away of the slope edge on the hillside, which also made it dangerous to get through. The district's construction department, in conjunction with HessenMobil, acted quickly and closed the path for cyclists and pedestrians.

Clay marl, a rock wall as subsoil and a lot of rain: At the K22, this combination led to the fact that clay and the soil on top of it threatened to slide off and could have fallen onto the footpath and cycle path below. Especially now that the outside temperatures are rising, some cyclists are drawn to this popular route. "Quick action was needed here to protect pedestrians and cyclists from falling earth and stones," explained Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor and Head of the Department of Public Works.

When the landslide was noticed, the necessary construction companies were quickly instructed to secure the path for traffic. In addition, the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park was informed about the necessary traffic safety measure. "Within a few days, the layers of earth on the slope could be secured," explained Adolf Scheuermann from the construction department. From now on, the path can be used again without hesitation and with a lot of driving fun. First District Councillor Frese thanked the authorities and companies involved for the good and quick cooperation and the smooth, result-oriented work.
