STADTRADELN again from 4 to 24 June in Waldeck-Frankenberg

This year, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is once again taking part in STADTRADELN from 4 to 24 June: everyone who likes cycling is cordially invited to take part in the international competition during the campaign period, for which registration is now open. The goal is to cycle as many kilometres as possible during the campaign period, record them with the app and thus improve cycling, protect the climate and do something good for your own health. The campaign starts on 4 June with a big rally to the Kellerwald National Park Centre in Herzhausen.

"For several years, the district has been committed to promoting cycling in Waldeck-Frankenberg in order to improve the quality of living and life here and to promote sustainable mobility," say District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First District Commissioner Karl-Friedrich Frese. "Participating in the STADTRADELN is a mosaic stone to further strengthen and develop cycling." Therefore, both department heads cordially invite all people in the district to participate in the campaign.

Rally has its premiere
Last year, the district was already at the start of the international Climate Alliance campaign with 14 cities and municipalities. This year there are already 19 municipalities. The starting signal will be given on 4 June with a big rally: Starting in Willingen, Adorf, Rhoden, Volkmarsen, Münden, Hatzfeld, Bromskirchen, Ernsthausen, Rosenthal, Gemünden, Frankenau, Bad Wildungen and Höringhausen, there will be guided bike tours that day, all ending at the Kellerwald National Park Centre in Herzhausen. The UNESCO World Heritage Day will also be celebrated there. Information on the route is available online.

Whether leisurely cyclists, families or e-bikers: the routes are planned so that everyone can join in. In the morning, there is a meeting point in the municipalities from which you can join the free tours, which take place in all weathers. The return journey is self-directed. The cyclists will reach the National Park Centre at around 12.30 pm. There, music, activities, delicacies, handicrafts and information stands invite visitors to stay until 6 pm. The Kreisverkehrswacht will provide information on road safety by bicycle and offer VR goggles, the road safety trainer, the helmet test and the light tunnel for testing. The ADFC, NVV Nordhessen and the district on the topic of everyday cycling and climate protection will also be present. In addition, admission to the National Park Centre is free on this day.

The kick-off event is organised by the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, the national park municipality of Vöhl and the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. "Under the motto "Our world. Our heritage. Our responsibility", we celebrate UNESCO World Heritage Day on 4 June. The STADTRADELN fits perfectly with this event and with the values we live by as a national park," says Jens Knopf, the department head of communication, education and nature experience at the national park. "Since 2018, the National Park has been "Fahrtziel Natur". Environmentally friendly mobility is therefore particularly close to our hearts and this clearly includes cycling as well as public transport." The mayor of Vöhl, Karsten Kalhöfer, also supports the campaign: "Lake Edersee and the National Park are important tourism factors in the Waldecker Land and for our National Park community. The tourist cycle paths such as the Eder Cycle Path are heavily frequented. At the same time, the path also plays a central role in everyday cycling as a north-south connection along the Eder."

Register now for STADTRADELN
The rally is therefore a fitting start for the campaign period from 4 to 24 June. All people in Waldeck-Frankenberg or who work here, belong to a club or attend a school can take part. Interested people register at www.stadtradeln.de for their municipality or district, join a team or set up their own. The kilometres travelled can be recorded online or in the app. Alternatively, they can be recorded manually and handed in to the district. At the end, prizes are awarded to the teams in various categories.

But prizes are not the main focus. First and foremost, the environment and one's own health gain from taking part. "After the cold season, people want to get outside and get some exercise," says Nicole Sude, who organises the campaign at the district's construction department. "Those who have cycled for the 21 days usually stick with it. It is important to use this motivation. In June, schools also have the opportunity to participate in STADTRADELN before the summer holidays." The three-week event also has attractive activities and destinations to offer outside of the rally: Starting on 10 June, the charcoal burning days will take place in the Dodenau game reserve with the lighting of the charcoal kiln. In Bad Wildungen, on 18 June, a mobile bicycle museum will be on display in the car-free Brunnenallee. From 23 to 26 June, you should visit Sachsenhausen to celebrate the town's 777th anniversary.

Report dangerous spots online
During the campaign period, Bad Wildungen, Diemelsee, Frankenberg (Eder), Hatzfeld (Eder) and Waldeck offer all cyclists the opportunity to report disturbing or dangerous spots in the cycle path online. You can report the defects at www.radar-online.net. The administration will then be informed automatically.

Background

STADTRADELN
With the international competition, Climate Alliance invites everyone to pedal and set an example for cycling promotion. The aim is to raise awareness for cycling in everyday life and to bring bicycle use and cycling planning more strongly into local parliaments.

The Climate Alliance
For more than 30 years, the member municipalities of the Climate Alliance have been working with their indigenous rainforest partners to protect the world's climate. With almost 2,000 members from more than 25 European countries, it is the world's largest city network for climate protection.

State of Hesse
The State of Hesse assumes the participation costs in STADTRADELN for all Hessian municipalities and districts. The objective of the campaign corresponds to the goals of the state-wide local mobility strategy. The ADFC Hessen also supports the campaign.
