New Geopark brochure: Muschelkalk in Wolfhager Land

"The Muschelkalk in the Wolfhager Land" - this is the title of a new information brochure published by the GrenzWelten National Geopark. The geologist Dr Reiner Kunz from Wolfhager and the Regional Museum Wolfhager Land supported the Geopark in producing the brochure. The brochure is available free of charge, can be downloaded from the Geopark homepage, can be ordered from the project office and is available in many public places, e.g. tourist information offices or municipal administrations.

"Muschelkalk im Wolfhager Land" takes readers back to the living creatures of about 240 million years ago. At that time, Central Europe lay near the equator and was largely covered by a sea. The calcareous rocks that were deposited during this time are common in the Wolfhager Land. As the name suggests, they are particularly rich in fossil shells. But fossils of other creatures - e.g. snails, cephalopods, crinoids and, in rare cases, fish and marine dinosaurs - have also been discovered in the rocks. Those who are particularly interested in the fossil finds will find them in the new geological exhibition in the Wolfhager Land Regional Museum. There they can be admired in large numbers.
