Gastronomy and tourism: Accessible offers honoured

The district wants to remove barriers in Waldeck-Frankenberg - including in the catering and tourism sectors. As part of a competition, it therefore honoured (conversion) construction measures in a wide variety of areas that contribute to greater participation and accessibility. At the beginning of December, the First District Councillor, together with the Women and Equal Opportunities Department, presented the winners of the competition with their prize money.

Removing barriers and enabling experiences: The competition aims to reward the efforts of businesses that are committed to improving accessibility in their offerings. It does not matter whether this involves major construction or remodelling measures or small ideas and improvements that ensure that people with disabilities can participate even better. There was also no requirement for a specific sum to be invested in the measure. Only the benefit counted.

2,500 was awarded to each of the four winners for their barrier-free offerings. "We want to make businesses aware of the different ways in which they can make their services as accessible as possible. With this competition, we are creating an additional incentive and recognising the measures accordingly," said Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Councillor, at the award ceremony. The maize labyrinth at Lake Edersee in Basdorf, the FERRUM guest house in Hillershausen, Emma's coffee barn in Vöhl and the Flechtdorf monastery were honoured.

In addition to a barrier-free car park, path design or sanitary facilities, the award winners have implemented many accessibility measures adapted to their offer and the local conditions and designed their offers in such a way that people with disabilities can make use of them without any obstacles. "I would like to thank you for your commitment to the issue of accessibility and for making it possible for people to participate in social life regardless of their impairments," said Alexandra Köck from the Women and Equal Opportunities Service to the winners.
