STADTRADELN: Rally to the National Park Centre
This year's National Park Festival will be combined with the STADTRADELN kick-off event on Sunday, 4 June, giving it a special setting. Under the motto "Our world. Our heritage. Our responsibility", the UNESCO World Heritage Day will be celebrated with a rally to the Kellerwald National Park Centre in Vöhl-Herzhausen. A colourful programme awaits the guests there. The kick-off event for STADTRADELN is organised by the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, the National Park community of Vöhl and the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. "Together we are promoting climate-friendly, sustainable mobility in the region at the start of STADTRADELN," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. "By linking it to World Heritage Day, we are also drawing attention to how directly our everyday habits affect our natural treasures," adds National Park Director Manuel Schweiger. Vöhl's mayor Karsten Kalhöfer is pleased that the national park municipality of Vöhl is hosting and co-hosting this great combined event and is taking part in the STADTRADELN. "There are many beautiful cycling routes to discover in Vöhl and the entire region," he says.
13 guided bike tours start on Sunday morning in the participating municipalities and lead in a star shape to the National Park Centre. Whether leisurely cyclists, families or e-bikers: all routes are planned so that everyone can join in. In the mornings, there is a meeting point in each municipality from which those interested can join the free tours, which take place in all weathers. Participation is on your own responsibility and the return journey is on your own. The cyclists will reach the National Park Centre at around 12:30 pm.
At the same time, a three-hour guided hike to the World Heritage Site starts at the National Park Centre at 11:00 a.m. (distance: 5.2 kilometres). At 1 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. there will be a guided one-and-a-half-hour cycle tour to the Hagenstein (route: 5.6 kilometres). Musical performances by Marc Freyer at 12:00 and Nadine Fingerhut at 14:30 will set the mood. The official greetings, including those of Hesse's Minister of the Environment Priska Hinz, will be given at 2:00 pm. At 3 p.m. the Wolfhager Figurentheater will perform the play "How Findus Came to Petterson". Throughout the day until 6 p.m., there will be information stands around the Kellerwald National Park Centre on the theme of "Climate-friendly on the move", regional handicrafts, a rally on the adventure grounds, face painting for children and regional food and drink. The exhibition in the centre with a film in the 4D-SinneKino can be visited by festival guests on this day free of charge. "We would of course be delighted if as many people as possible came by bike and pedalled hard to kick off the city cycling," explains Schweiger, "but of course you can also enjoy the varied supporting programme if you arrive elsewhere."
