Interesting facts about the weather: Geopark daycare centre visits museum

The little researchers from the Sonnenschein Geopark daycare centre in Korbach learnt interesting facts about the weather during their visit to the Weather Museum in Schreufa - a hands-on museum where the topics of weather, climate and sustainability are explained in a playful and child-friendly way.

Weather house, balloon and co.
The children were amazed by the various weather instruments, among other things. From weather houses and historical measuring instruments to weather balloons: when it comes to the weather, a lot of data is collected and analysed. The children were also told an entertaining story about the negative impact of rubbish on the environment.

Insect house, wild bees and amphibians
There was also plenty for the children to discover in the outdoor area: a weather station that transmits its readings fully automatically and a rotating globe in the Creation Garden, which focussed in particular on the negative impact of humans on the environment. But the visit was also animal-themed: in addition to an insect house that is home to wild bees, there were also habitats and shelters for birds, bats and amphibians to marvel at. The planting activity in the hands-on garden, where the children were busy planting and watering, rounded off an eventful morning for the daycare centre children.

Promoting environmental awareness
The trip to the Weather Museum was organised and funded by the GrenzWeltenGeopark. The Sonnenschein daycare centre was designated a Geopark daycare centre in 2022. As part of this cooperation, the Geopark supports visits to places of learning outside the daycare centre in order to get children interested in scientific topics from an early age and thus promote environmental awareness. Kindergartens, day-care centres and anyone interested can obtain further information from the GrenzWeltenGeopark project office on 05631-954-1512 or geopark@lkwafkb.de.
