In addition, it enables young people to continue their education primarily in vocational courses, but also in courses that qualify them for university studies. The course of education leads to the lower secondary school leaving certificate in the simple and the qualifying form.

Lessons in the Hauptschule build on the content and learning techniques acquired in the Grundschule. The methods are age-appropriate and lead pupils to learn independently. In terms of content, the teaching of key qualifications is of great importance. Practical and activity-oriented lessons are focal points of the pedagogical work; they are supplemented by project days and interdisciplinary projects.

The pupils of the Hauptschule take part in a final examination in year 9. This consists of two parts: the central final examinations in German, mathematics and, if applicable, the first foreign language, and a project examination.

After achieving the lower secondary school leaving certificate, students have a wide range of options for further education at school in addition to entering dual training.
