Integration monitoring

  • Performance specification

Monitoring plays an increasingly important role in German and European integration policy. Monitoring means observation. The Hessian Integration Monitor provides a planning and decision-making basis for sustainable integration policy. It has been published since 2010 and is updated regularly.

The monitor compares data for people with and without a migration background or foreigners and Germans, for example on kindergarten attendance, school-leaving qualifications, employment and social environment - so-called structural and social dimensions of integration. Deviations can then highlight a corresponding need for action, e.g. if the school-leaving qualifications of foreign young people lag significantly behind those of Germans. These topics are supplemented by indicators on the cultural and identification dimension, for example social contacts, sense of belonging or use of the German language. The illustration of time series since 2005 shows positive or negative trends.

In total, the Hessian Integration Monitor comprises around 50 indicators in several thematic fields relevant to integration policy and brings together data from almost 20 sources.
