Performance specification
The cultural monuments protected under the Monument Protection Act are recorded in a monument list, which serves as a working aid for all parties involved. The inclusion of a cultural monument in this list has declaratory significance, i.e. a cultural monument is already protected before it is included in this list because it fulfils the definitions set out in the Monument Protection Act.
Listed in the monument list:
- Short designation of the cultural monument
- Location
- characteristic features (why the object is worthy of preservation)
The Hessian list of monuments is currently being compiled. You can find out which areas have already been completely prepared with geo-referenced specialist data on the website "Cultural Monuments in Hessen". Further areas will be added step by step.
Process flow
A cultural monument is included in the list of monuments ex officio. Also, anyone (e.g. owner) can make a corresponding application. The object must have the characteristics defined in the Monument Protection Act.
In this procedure, the owner is informed when an entry is made and made aware of the rights and obligations that ownership of a cultural monument entails.
What are the fees?
No fees are charged for the registration and inspection of the monument list.
Who do I need to contact?
The State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Hesse is responsible for the inventory of all monuments in Hesse.
