Flechtdorf landfill

Flechtdorf landfill

The Diemelsee-Flechtdorf landfill is the largest of the three disposal facilities in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. As a structural and technical facility, it ensures that the dumping of waste causes as little harm to the environment as possible. In most cases, waste is stored here for the long term, in some cases even for final disposal.

Which waste fraction may be deposited depends on the approved landfill class. Each landfill class (DK0-DKIV) has its own allocation criteria and parameters. The Diemelsee-Flechtdorf landfill is a class DKI landfill according to the Landfill Ordinance. This means that waste can be delivered in certain quantities according to the classification criteria DK0 and DKI, in part only with analysis. In addition to landfilling, waste utilisation, waste incineration / thermal utilisation and capping are used.

We are supported!

As part of the National Climate Protection Initiative, our district is being funded together with SEF Energietechnik GmbH from Zwickau in a project to determine greenhouse gas reduction potential at the Diemelsee-Flechtdorf landfill site. The project entitled "Feasibility study to determine greenhouse gas reduction potential at the Diemelsee-Flechtdorf landfill" runs from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025. The aim is to ensure the proper connection of the landfill gas collection system, reduce methane gas emissions and increase the gas collection rate.

The contents of the project include recording the condition of the gas collection system, in-depth investigations, gas extraction tests, camera inspections and the creation of a gas forecast. The project is being carried out under the funding code 67K25010.

With the National Climate Initiative, the Federal Government has been initiating and funding numerous projects that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions since 2008. Its programmes and projects cover a broad spectrum of climate protection activities: From the development of long-term strategies to concrete assistance and investment support measures. This diversity is a guarantee for good ideas. The National Climate Initiative contributes to anchoring climate protection on the ground. It benefits consumers as well as businesses, municipalities and educational institutions.
