District offers free swimming courses in Bad Arolsen

Last year, due to the pandemic, no swimming courses could take place as part of the school curriculum. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg with its specialist service for sports and youth work would therefore like to make it possible for children in primary school classes 3 and 4 in particular to start swimming. In this way, the district aims to prevent avoidable swimming accidents. Corresponding courses for non-swimmers are to be offered throughout the district in the form of a pilot project. Participating children are familiarised with the water and learn the first basic techniques of swimming. The first courses have already been running since 19 July in Korbach's open-air swimming pool and are very popular.

The district's sports and youth work department is starting the next courses in the fourth and fifth week of the Hessian summer holidays. Every Monday to Friday from 9 to 20 August, interested third and fourth graders who do not yet know how to swim will have a free opportunity to learn how to swim for a total of 10 days. A deposit of 30 euros will be charged at the beginning in order to establish a commitment. However, this "deposit" is refunded at the end of the course if the children attend regularly.

The courses take place in the Arobella leisure pool, Schlesienstr. 23, 34454 Bad Arolsen, course times are 11:00 am + 12:00 pm for 45 minutes each. Meeting point is 10 minutes before the start of the course at the ticket office of the leisure pool. Swimwear and a bath towel are required, if available water wings and "practical" clothes so that changing does not take too much time. Any jewellery should be left at home so that it does not get lost. The exercise management cannot accept any liability for valuables such as jewellery, money or watches and will not accept them for safekeeping.

All interested non-swimmers who were in primary school classes 3 and 4 before the summer holidays in 2021 can register through their parents via the district's website at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de/schwimmkurs-klasse-3-4 from now until 5 August 2021. There are a total of 16 places available (8 places per course). Children should only be registered if they cannot actually swim yet. Questions about the swimming courses can be answered by the sports and youth work department by calling 05631 954-815 or emailing julia.schulte@lkwafkb.de.
