Storm: District Administrator Dr Reinhard Kubat thanks emergency workers

Flooded cellars, mudslides in the courtyard, flooded streets... the storms of the past three days have presented all emergency services with enormous challenges. Some of the volunteers from the volunteer fire brigades, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief, disaster control and other relief organisations were active for 48 hours at a stretch. "Our volunteers have done a great job and in many cases prevented the floods from getting much worse," emphasised District Administrator Dr Kubat and expressed his sincere thanks to the tireless helpers.

Particularly in the northern district, the situation was at times almost unmanageable, with such torrential masses of water pouring over Waldeck-Frankenberg. "In the Bad Arolsen area alone, our control centre received around 200 calls for assistance on the two main days of the storm," said the district administrator, adding that the emergency services had to respond around Volkmarsen a further 100 times. In 13 other municipalities in the district, a total of more than 500 emergency services were required.

Waldeck-Frankenberg can count itself lucky to have such experienced and always ready specialists who are always immediately on the spot when it comes to containing or eliminating situations of danger to life and limb as well as property. "A big round of applause for the ladies and gentlemen from the local volunteer fire brigades, from the local branches of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief, disaster control and other aid organisations," Dr Kubat concluded his thanks, combined with the hope that summer would finally arrive at the beginning of the school holidays and that the emergency services would also be able to enjoy a well-deserved holiday.
