Our Village has a Future: Applications still open until 31 October

The application deadline for the "Our Village has a Future" competition has been extended - and now runs until 31 October 2021.

"Our Village has a Future" - the name stands for the quality of the competition: It is about making the village even more liveable and sustainable. The focus is on civic activities and self-help services. Both individuals and the local community actively shape the village, from the appearance of houses, streets, gardens ... through diverse forms of living together to the development of a mission statement or motto to highlight the importance and future development of the village in the regional context.

The competition aims to address village-specific problems - such as the decline in basic services, the ever-increasing proportion of older and declining proportion of younger people, or the structural change in agriculture with underused buildings or vacancies. The application deadline for "Our Village has a Future" 2021/2022 was originally 31 May 2021, but this deadline has now been extended to 31 October 2021. The Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection and the district's village and regional development service, as the locally responsible contributor, are calling on all villages with up to 3,000 inhabitants to participate.

When evaluating the participating villages, the commission will be guided by various criteria during its evaluation tour in spring 2022, by the end of May at the latest:

  • Development concepts/economic initiatives
  • Social commitment and cultural activities,
  • Building design and settlement development,
  • Green design/relation to the landscape,
  • Overall view

Each participating village receives a protocol that provides suggestions for future development possibilities of the village. In addition to prize money of 5,000 - 1,000 euros (1st - 5th prize), there are also four special regional prizes of 1,000 euros.
