Workshop on Islamism Prevention on 6 and 7 December

The topic of preventing Islamism is the focus of two online events organised by the North Hessian Centres for Democracy Promotion and Cross-Phenomenon Extremism Prevention (DEXT). Two extremism experts and Islamic scholars have been recruited as speakers: Dr. Götz Nordbruch from the association ufuq.de and Cuma Ülger, project manager of the Hesse counselling centre of the Violence Prevention Network. The two events will take place on 6 and 7 December 2021.

Islamism is a widespread phenomenon that is not limited to calls for violence, but can take on very different forms of expression. However, not every conflict that is based on religion is an expression of Islamist ideology. In prevention work, it is above all a matter of knowing the topics that are taken up in Islamist speeches and asking the question about the motives and needs that can make these offers interesting for youths and young adults. In addition, alternative offers are to be developed here that are more attractive than what Islamist scenes promise.

Participants in the two online events can expect a joint lecture by the two experts on Monday, 6 December 2021, from 18:30 to 20:00. Among other things, the lecture will deal with the recruitment strategies of Islamists, but also with strategies for action when young people show signs of radicalisation. On Tuesday, 7 December 2021, the topic can be explored in greater depth in a workshop from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. using concrete examples. The lecture can of course also be attended independently of the workshop, but workshop participation is only possible in conjunction with the lecture.

Participation in the event is free of charge. Registrations until 2 December 2021 are accepted by the DEXT office of the district of Kassel at e-mail eva-gertz@landkreiskassel.de or by phone 0561 10031059. Questions about the events will also be answered there.
