Roof for factory owner's villa: funding from heritage conservation funds

Coming from Korbach and turning right after Twiste onto the feeder road towards Twistesee/Elleringhausen, you soon come to two impressive buildings. The old spool factory rises directly on the road and almost distracts the eye from the factory owner's villa, which sits no less impressively behind an overgrown wall in the middle of a lush garden. This is where First District Councillor and Head of the Department of Construction Karl-Friedrich Frese went, carrying a grant from the funds for the preservation of historical monuments in his luggage. Gerhard Jordan, owner of the factory owner's villa, whose slate-covered roof is in great need of renovation, is the happy recipient of the grant of 5,000 euros.

"Many thanks to the district for the welcome and necessary support for decades of efforts to preserve the Waldeckische Holzspulenfabrikcultural monument," said Gerhard Jordan on receiving the funding notification. There is a family connection to the previous owners and it is a matter close to his family's heart to work for the restoration and preservation of the former factory - as well as its use and reorientation after the end of special construction activities in the water industry.

However, Jordan continues, without help from the monument protection, the current situation (significantly increased building prices in the pandemic, special price situation for materials, e.g. slate) means that the previous effort is now no longer possible. "It is important to preserve culture - which includes historic buildings." Otherwise, at some point we would no longer know where we came from, how our versatile craft had developed and where our roots were. Jordan was a member of the Association of German Master Builders for many decades.

"For such a special building project, we are happy to make our contribution by supporting the preservation of historical monuments," emphasised Frese, the head of the building department. The 5,000 euros are only one of many pieces in the mosaic leading up to the completed renovation, but they are not insignificant. After all, the factory owner's villa is a representative building for the Waldecker Land and the entire district. "We also want to send a signal here that the preservation of historical buildings, a part of our history, is very important to us." In this way, the funds for the preservation of historical monuments, which are unfortunately only available to a limited extent, would be used in a targeted manner - such as for the Fabrikantenvilla as an important testimony to the building culture in the Waldecker Land.
