The extreme right in (North) Hesse: Online lecture on 6 October

The murders of District President Dr. Lübcke from Wolfhagen and in Hanau, which can be attributed to the right-wing scene, have shocked many people. However, these were not the only acts that must be considered right-wing terrorist acts in Hesse in the recent past. In fact, there has been an active, extreme right-wing scene in our federal state for many years, which is prepared to use violence. However, these many, seemingly unorganised militants operate in networks that are often hardly noticed. Parties from the right-wing spectrum or right-wing movements hardly ever appear in public.

The four specialised centres for democracy promotion and cross-phenomena extremism prevention (DEXT) in North Hesse are now offering a lecture on this topic in their series of events "Democracy Talks North Hesse". The lecture entitled "The extreme right in (North) Hesse - Between conspicuousness, militancy and terrorism" will take place online on 6 October 2021 from 18:30-20:00, and the speaker will be political scientist Sascha Schmidt. All interested parties are invited to attend.

The speaker will describe how strong the extreme right-wing scene is in Hesse, what influence it has on political and social developments and what potential dangers lie dormant within it. In particular, he will look at the situation in North Hesse and the interplay between social media presence and the real balance of power of the extreme right.

For organisational reasons, it is necessary to register for the free lecture. As the DEXT office of the Schwalm-Eder district is in charge of coordination, it also accepts registrations. Until 1 October, it is possible to register for the seminar by sending an e-mail to anna.stiehl@schwalm-eder-kreis.de or by calling 05681 775-718. For more information, contact the DEXT office in the district at 05631 954-561 or e-mail susanne.rieb@lkwafkb.de.
