District receives over 2 million euros for renovation of the district hall

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg receives a grant of 2.1 million euros from the state of Hesse through the Hessenkasse investment programme for the conversion of the district hall in Korbach. State Secretary Jens Deutschendorf handed over the decision to the District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst.

Modernisation and reconstruction
The goal is to technically renovate the building on Südring in Korbach, which was built in 1983, and to adapt it to the requirements of modern public administration in order to then unite previously outsourced departments at the location. This will be made possible, among other things, by the new administrative building on the neighbouring property of the district hall, where about 180 new jobs will be created. The youth, health and social affairs departments will move into the new building, which is also being funded with 16 million euros by the Hessenkasse. This will free up space in the old district hall.

"Through the Hessenkasse investment programme, we can provide targeted support to municipalities that have managed well in the past and have not had to take out cash loans," said State Secretary for Economic Affairs Jens Deutschendorf, thanking the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. "With the support of the state, the necessary construction measures to improve and optimise the working conditions in the district hall in Korbach can now be implemented," said the State Secretary.

Construction work to start in 2023
Planning for the renovation of the district hall is to start as soon as possible. "We are looking at the entire spatial concept of the district at the Korbach location," explains District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. "The aim is not only to renovate the administration technically, but also to structure the space in such a way that work processes are optimised even further - also by supporting digitalisation." This would be helped not only by the 2.1 million euros provided by the State of Hesse for the refurbishment project, but also by the grateful subsidy from the Hessenkasse, which the district had already received for the new administrative building at Südring. "This will enable us to offer efficient and modern administrative operations - and to expand them even further."

Construction work on the renovation of the district hall is to begin this time next year if possible. The office space on all floors of the building will be renovated. To ensure fire protection, all fire doors, the security lighting and the fire alarm system will be renewed. In addition, the water system and the electrical engineering will be brought up to the latest standards and the distribution system of the ventilation system in the corridors will be renewed. Walls and ceilings will be renovated and the floors replaced. The data technology will also be completely modernised in order to continuously develop the digitalisation of the administration. In addition, it is planned to remodel the existing room structure and adapt it to organisational requirements. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2024.
