Swimming courses for children from 7 to 13 years during the summer holidays
In the last two years, general swimming lessons as part of the school curriculum were mostly cancelled due to the pandemic, and swimming courses could only be implemented under difficult conditions, if at all. For this reason, the district's sports and youth work department and the Waldeck-Frankenberg sports association would like to offer swimming courses specifically for children again, as they did very successfully last year.
District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst emphasises: "The offer is not only intended to enable girls and boys to actually swim in the water instead of splashing around. Above all, we also want to prevent bathing accidents." The District Administrator thanked Waldecker Bank eG, which made the swimming courses possible in the first place with a generous donation of 5,000 euros to the sports district.
During the summer holidays, children between the ages of 7 and 13 have the opportunity to change from non-swimmers to swimmers at several locations, namely at the swimming pools in Bad Wildungen, Diemelsee-Heringhausen, Korbach and in the neighbouring town of Medebach in North Rhine-Westphalia. The swimming courses are aimed at real non-swimmers or absolute swimming beginners - no swimming skills already acquired are to be deepened or refreshed. The participants are familiarised with the water and learn the first basic techniques of swimming.
The swimming courses (cost contribution 50 euros) will take place from 25 July to 5 August 2022 on Mondays to Thursdays at all four locations, presumably from 8 am - 1 pm each day. From 15 - 26 August 2022, three additional courses will also be offered in Korbach, also from Mondays to Thursdays. Part of the fee can be refunded for successful and regular participation.
