Open Monument Day: Register by 30 June

"Lights out, spotlight on! Monument talents on a big stage" - under this motto, thousands of monuments will once again open their doors on 10 September 2023 and let interested visitors take a look behind their scenes. First district councillor and head of the building department Karl-Friedrich Frese calls on all interested owners of monuments in the district to take part in the campaign and register their building for participation.

As the German Foundation for Monument Protection, the initiator of Monument Day, points out, this year's motto "Talent Monument" shines the spotlight on extraordinary features of historic buildings. What makes the warped half-timbered house at the end of the village an eye-catcher? Why does the inconspicuous forest chapel always attract visitors? And why is the plain concrete building from the 1960s so charming after all? At the big monument show on 10 September 2023, these special features will be presented and made visible to everyone. Registrations are still possible until 30 June here.

In its publicity for Monument Day, the German Foundation for Monument Protection emphasises: The spotlight is not only on the big building stars whose radiant talents effortlessly stand out from the crowd, but also on the little stars, the inconspicuous participants whose personalities only catch the eye at second glance. Whether pompous palace facades or plain brick walls, magnificent halls or modest chambers, marked by centuries or still green behind scaffolding: uniqueness hides everywhere.

The special characteristics of the "monument talents" are endearing and diverse, often surprising, never boring, sometimes only recognisable at second glance, but always unique and worth preserving. Building department head Frese and the monuments department of the district building authority would be pleased to see many participants from Waldeck-Frankenberg on Monument Day in September.
