"Sportland Hessen bewegt" is an initiative of the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Sport and the Hessian Sports Federation. The state programme aims to develop the area of sport, exercise and health in a future-oriented way. In particular, public awareness is to be raised, the needs and requirements in the municipalities analysed, offers developed and a contribution made to the networking of many health-promoting efforts. To this end, the state of Hesse has implemented a pilot project for the introduction of physical activity coordinators at the city and district level as part of the state programme.
The sports and youth work department of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district has developed a concept for the implementation of the model project "Physical Activity Coordinators" and was selected as a model region on 1 February 2022. The duration of the model project is three years. The personnel costs are mainly borne by the state of Hesse.
The aim of the project at district level is to create a sustainable organisational structure for the wide-ranging subject area of physical activity and health promotion and to harness synergy effects through appropriate coordination and networking between different actors. The district is interested in developing coordinated measures that motivate people in Waldeck-Frankenberg to engage in sport and exercise-oriented activities. The aim is to increase the quantity and quality of physical activity and health sport offers in the most diverse settings and along all phases of life and to sustainably consolidate them. The district works intersectorally with other departments of the district administration, cities and municipalities, the Waldeck-Frankenberg sports district, the Hesse State Sports Federation and other stakeholders on individual projects.
The project also focuses on the development and continuous updating of a district-wide prevention plan for the promotion of physical activity with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders based on the sports development planning of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. In cooperation with the health department of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, which is responsible for the programme for the establishment of municipal structures for health promotion and prevention funded by the SHI Alliance, synergy effects that avoid duplication of structures are to be used under the motto "Healthy Living", (new) structures are to be initiated and developments are to be jointly advanced within the framework of an "Overall Health Strategy".
