Notifying the school or day care centre of head lice infestation

  • Performance specification

If you notice head lice infestation in your child, the community institution that your child regularly attends (for example day care centres, schools or similar institutions) must be informed immediately.

The management of the community facility shall immediately notify the public health department and provide disease and personal information.

Head lice infestation is the most common parasitic disease in Europe. Anyone can get head lice. This is not due to a lack of hygiene. Especially in places where many children gather, head lice are transmitted quickly.

Children with head lice are not allowed to enter rooms of the community centre, not allowed to use facilities of the community centre and not allowed to participate in events of the community centre until a further spread of the lice by them is no longer to be feared.

A medical certificate is only required if a person has had repeated cases of lice within four weeks. This is in accordance with the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute.
