Health counselling for people working in prostitution

    The "Act on the Regulation of the Prostitution Trade and the Protection of Persons Engaged in Prostitution" (Prostitution Protection Act - ProstSchG) came into force nationwide on 1 July 2017.
     

    It provides for health offices to offer confidential health counselling. This includes information on sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, contraception, alcohol and drug use and provides an opportunity to disclose an existing predicament.
     

    The counselling interview is a prerequisite for registering the activity with the municipality in which one predominantly works.

  • Requirements

    All persons working in prostitution must attend a health consultation at the health office.
     

    It is a prerequisite for re-registering the activity with the municipality in which one is predominantly active.
     

    Prostitutes who have already exercised their activity before 1 July 2017 must have attended the health consultation by 31 December 2017.

    The counselling session usually lasts about 30 minutes.

  • What else should I know?

    How often do you have to seek advice?

    For persons over 21 years of age:

    After initial registration, every twelve months.
     

    Transitional arrangement:

    In the case of initial registration by 31 December 2017, two years after the first health consultation, thereafter every twelve months.


    For persons between 18 and 21 years of age:

    Every six months after initial registration.
     

    The certificate of counselling provided may also be issued on the alias given at the time of registration of the activity.

    Prostitutes must carry the certificate of health counselling with them when carrying out their activity.
