Mobile hazardous waste unit on the road again in the district

In the period from 1 to 27 September inclusive, specially marked collection vehicles (Schadstoffmobil) will again be on the road in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district to collect hazardous waste. This is a convenient way for citizens to dispose of this waste properly.

The pollutant mobiles accept environmentally hazardous waste, limited to a maximum of 100 kg per collection and household. Containers must not weigh more than 20 kg and hold no more than 20 litres. For laboratory chemicals, concentrates, acids and alkalis as well as PCB-containing condensers, the total acceptance quantity is a maximum of 10 kg or 10 litres, for cyanides and mercury-containing waste 1 kg or 1 litre.

Solar thermal fluid and antifreeze from solar systems can usually be returned via the installer. The free drop-off at the mobile hazardous waste collection point for private households is limited to 20 litres per collection in spring and autumn.

Liquid hazardous wastes must not be mixed together. If possible, they should be delivered to the collection vehicle in the original container with appropriate labelling. Under no circumstances should they be disposed of down the toilet or drain. The containers must be tightly closed; they will be disposed of with the waste. Used oils are not accepted, as all dealers are legally obliged to take back used oil in the amount of the fresh oil sold. Used medicines from private households are accepted without packaging in small quantities.

In addition to hazardous waste, small electrical appliances with a volume of up to 10 litres can also be handed in. No edge length may exceed 50 cm. Televisions and monitors as well as all large appliances - e.g. cookers, washing machines, dryers, microwaves, extractor bonnets, ironing machines, lawn mowers - are generally excluded from acceptance via the mobile collection. They can be delivered free of charge in household quantities to the waste disposal facilities of the district or disposed of via the bulky waste collection/ depots of the cities and municipalities.

Neon tubes and energy-saving light bulbs are accepted up to a quantity of 10 pieces by the hazardous waste mobile. In larger quantities, they can also be handed in free of charge at the waste disposal facilities of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. Commercial waste producers with a quantity of more than 50 lamps to be handed in should contact commercial collection points.

Hazardous waste must be handed in personally to protect children who are playing. Under no circumstances may the waste be left unattended at the collection points. To ensure a smooth process, please do not park your own motor vehicle at the collection point for the mobile hazardous waste collection unit and keep the access roads clear. Personal protective equipment should be worn during delivery, consisting of gloves and sturdy footwear as well as mouth and nose protection.

Small quantities of hazardous waste from private households can be handed in free of charge. A disposal fee of 7 euros per kg is charged to craft enterprises, small businesses, service companies or from the administrative sector.

The use of pollutant-free products makes an important contribution to environmental protection. For further information, please contact the waste advisory service of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district at Tel. 06451 743-746, website www.abfallw-wa-fkb.de.
