Groundbreaking ceremony for the new building

When the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg was formed in 1974, the administrations in the two former district towns also had to reorganise themselves. In Korbach, the new district hall on Südring was inaugurated in 1983, which was designed in such a way that the administrative staff as a whole had sufficient office and consultation rooms at their disposal. In the meantime, however, the district population has grown considerably and new tasks have come up for the administration.

Therefore, in recent years, external office space had to be rented again and again, both in Frankenberg and in Korbach and the surrounding area, in order to create the necessary space requirements. This is soon to come to an end, because after extensive planning and preparation, a new office building will be built behind the district hall on Südring in Korbach, which will solve these problems in the long term.

Now, in the presence of District Administrator Dr Reinhard Kubat and First District Councillor and Head of the Building Department Karl-Friedrich Frese, the groundbreaking ceremony for this forward-looking project took place. The construction time is projected to be two years, the building should be ready for occupancy at the end of 2022, and the employees will then move in at the beginning of 2023.

"178 workplaces will be created in the new building," explained District Administrator Dr Reinhard Kubat. "This will allow us to move the health department, which is currently located in a complex in the street 'Am Kniep', to the main location of our administration in Korbach and at the same time to completely accommodate the two largest departments, social services and youth, there". The corresponding space programme had been developed together with the affected department heads, the architects and planners as well as those responsible for the project in the district's building management.

"Although the new building is an investment of around 16 million euros, it also enables us to sell old properties and terminate tenancies, so that in the medium term we can expect a not insignificant refinancing," says First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese. "In any case, the service for the citizens will improve because the new building will bundle many currently still decentralised service offers in one place.

The new building will be erected in hybrid construction (reinforced concrete skeleton construction with non-load-bearing wooden post-and-beam wall) and will blend harmoniously into the surroundings in terms of architecture. It is connected to the main building by a covered arcade. With a green roof including a photovoltaic system and a district heating supply from a neighbouring biogas plant, the building has high environmental standards and energy efficiency. The first tenders have already been issued throughout Europe, and construction work can begin at the beginning of 2021.
