Pedestrian protection device to be installed in Sachsenhausen

District Administrator Dr Reinhard Kubat has given the town of Waldeck some good news. At the beginning
of the school year 2021/2022, a pedestrian traffic light or other pedestrian protection device
will be installed on the B 485 in the Waldeck-Sachsenhausen through-route. The pedestrian protection device
will be installed in the Sommerhagen/Winterhagen/gas station area
and is initially intended as a temporary measure.

"The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, as a school authority and traffic authority, attaches the highest priority to the aspect of safety on the way to school," the district administrator emphasised in his letter to the town of Waldeck. After intensive consultation with HessenMobil Straßen- und Verkehrsmanagement (HessenMobil Road and Traffic Management), a possibility had arisen to erect the pedestrian protection device within the framework of the road traffic regulations.

With the opening of the new primary school on Werbaer Straße in Sachsenhausen, the number of pupils crossing the B 485 in this area may also increase significantly. However, the actual pupil movements could not be quantitatively evaluated due to predominantly distance teaching as a result of the Corona pandemic. Precise surveys are now possible with the start of the new school year. They will be taken into account after a reasonable period of time as a basis for the actual pupil flows for a possible permanent traffic law order for a pedestrian protection system.

"We assume that the newly installed crossing aid will also be accepted accordingly by the school community," concludes Dr Kubat. This aspect will definitely be included in the evaluation mentioned.
