Sessile oak planted for Heinrich Heidel

Over the years, a small forest of trees of honour has grown up around the Korbach District Hall. Since the first tree was planted by the then 1st District Councillor Franz Knebel on the occasion of his retirement from office in December 1990, the "District House Forest" has grown by 10 more trees. Two commemorative trees for the partnerships with the Russian district of Pereslawl and the district of Weimarer Land have also been added.

The 14th tree of honour could now be claimed by former district councillor Heinrich Heidel, who planted it himself. With the sessile oak he chose, he also closes the circle to the first tree of honour - Franz Knebel had also chosen a sessile oak at that time. District Administrator Dr Reinhard Kubat congratulated Heidel on this well-deserved honour and was pleased with the location of the tree on the meadow between the Kreishaus pond and the Südring.

The requirements for the planting of a tree of honour have been regulated by a resolution of the district committee. This states that those deserving honorary members of the district committee who can look back on more than 25 years of service to the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg may receive an honorary tree. The tree of honour will be planted on the grounds of the District Hall in Korbach. Among the tree patrons, District Councillor a. D. Ursula Breuer is the only woman so far. In November 2006, she added a small-leaved lime tree to the circle of trees.

Former district councillor Heinrich Heidel, who was accompanied by his wife Monika, recalled his first meeting in a district committee during the planting campaign, which he attended in 1989. "The Ederberglandhalle in Frankenberg had just been completed at that time and the district naturally used the new building straight away for a parliamentary session" - a premiere, therefore, not only for him but also for his colleagues in the district council. With a wink, Heidel added that the well-known good catering at the meetings of the district committees had been a not insignificant reason for his participation. Most important to him, however, had been the objective, goal-oriented and fair culture of debate under which decisions were always made for the good of the district population, both in the district council and in the district committee.

Heinrich Heidel has completed over 25 years of voluntary work for the Waldeck-Frankenberg district mainly as a member of the district council, but was also active as a district councillor on the district committee during the last election period from 2016 to 2021. In the years 1993 - 1995, he led the district parliamentary group of the FDP as chairman, was a member of the committees on finance and agriculture, as well as the waste management commission, the school commission and the sports commission. He also made his extensive knowledge of local politics available to the district in the psychiatry advisory board, the advisory board of Jugendburg Hessenstein and the supervisory board of the Frankenberg district hospital. In addition, Heinrich Heidel was a member of the association assembly of the Zweckverband Tierkörperbeseitigung Hessen Nord and the association board of the Zweckverband Schwimmbad Battenberg on behalf of the district.
