Vaccination follow-up platform in the final of the e-government competition

Smart technologies can make public administrations more efficient and crisis-proof. This was also demonstrated in Waldeck-Frankenberg during the Corona pandemic: The district was able to save thousands of vaccine doses from expiring thanks to the vaccination follow-up platform that was set up at short notice - and has now made it to the finals of the international e-government competition with the project.

This international competition, in which public administrations from Germany, Austria and Switzerland can participate, awards digital innovations in administrations. The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has already reached the finals with its vaccination follow-up platform. Last week, the online presentations to the jury took place; on 29 September, the winners will be announced at an award ceremony in Berlin.

Contribution to short-term crisis management

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg is nominated in the category "Best contribution to short-term crisis management". In April, it faced the challenge of reallocating spontaneously cancelled or unattended appointments at the vaccination centre in Korbach. Within a few hours, the vaccine doses had to be redistributed - at that time still according to the prioritisation groups in force at the time. The goal: No vaccine dose was to go to waste!

With the digital vaccination supply platform, the district achieved the goal it had set itself - and spontaneously reallocated 100 vaccination doses every day within a few hours. For this purpose, the interdisciplinary project team convened at short notice created an online process that made it possible to react quickly, innovatively and flexibly to the daily situation and the corresponding needs.

Innovative and special

What was innovative and special about the project was that it was implemented within a few days, was immediately successful and enabled direct contact with citizens through a low-threshold and additional registration channel for vaccination against the coronavirus. Feedback from the population was also immediately incorporated into the optimisation of the application. During the online presentation, the jury was already pleased with the agile and interdisciplinary cooperation of the specialised services and the effective, digitally supported and unbureaucratic solution.

Vote for the district now until 22 September!

Whether the district will win the main prize in the category will become clear at the end of September. "The nomination in this international competition is already a great success - especially since otherwise almost only federal authorities have made it to the finals," says a pleased District Administrator Dr Reinhard Kubat. "Our employees have put a lot of effort and heart and soul into the project." The district would therefore be pleased if many people voted for the district as the winner of the public prize by 22 September.
