Digital reading competition: District winners have been chosen

The Corona pandemic has also had an impact this year on the reading competition of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Publishers and Booksellers Association), which has been promoting reading and the enjoyment of books for over 50 years. Children in the sixth grades of secondary schools usually present their reading skills to a large audience - whether in class, in front of the school community or in competition for the district victory. This year, the competition was again held digitally. Sophia Bienmüller and Luisa Drolshagen came out on top.

Reading entries in video format
As last year, due to the pandemic, the reading entries had to be uploaded as a video on a digital platform and evaluated by the jury via screen. After the participation in the two digital district reading competitions organised by the district was significantly lower in 2021 than in previous years, it fortunately increased again this year. Once again, it was not easy for the jury to decide which children would be allowed to represent Waldeck-Frankenberg at the district competition in Kassel.

District Administrator congratulates: "Consistently good reading performances"
Sophia Bienmüller from Kaulbach-Schule Bad Arolsen will once again prove her reading skills at the district competition in Kassel for the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg North. Luisa Drolshagen from the Edertal School in Frankenberg will read for the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg South for a place in the state competition in Hesse. "I congratulate her warmly on this great achievement, which had to take place under special conditions again this year due to the pandemic," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. "We are all the more pleased about the commitment of all the children. Because - as reported by the jury - the consistently good reading performances could only be distinguished by small nuances."

The decision on who will advance in the reading competition will be made by the end of April 2022. The state finals will then take place in May and a meeting of the state winners is planned for June to determine the best reader for the 2021/2022 school year. The Börsenverein and the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, as regional organisers, hope that the pandemic will ease enough so that the national competition can be held in person.
