The topic is "How do we deal with the war in Ukraine?

The free event will take place on 12 July 2022 from 6:00 pm at the Bürgerhaus in Korbach, it is bilingual (German and Russian). Speaker Dr. Jannis Panagiotidis, a native of Korbach and Deputy Director of the Research Centre for the History of Transformations at the University of Vienna, will speak about the impact of the Ukraine war on the culture of discussion in Germany. The lecture and discussion evening will be musically accompanied by the Russian-German women's choir "Singende Frauen" from Korbach. A small snack and drinks will be provided for the physical well-being.

There is a great deal of solidarity with Ukraine among the German public. But there are also people who do not want to acknowledge Russia's responsibility in this war. This is often attributed to Russian Germans. But how is the war really discussed by this diverse population group? What positions and perspectives do the people have and why?

Dr Panagiotidis takes an objective look at the perspectives of Russian Germans and ethnic German immigrants. As a junior professor for migration and integration of Russian Germans and author of the book "Post-Soviet Migration in Germany: An Introduction", he has well-founded knowledge of the various positions within this population group through numerous research projects.

Registration for the event is not necessary, it will take place under the current Corona rules. Further information is available from the DEXT office, tel. 05631 954-561, or from the Network for Tolerance, tel. 01511 6916411. Questions about the lecture will also be answered there.
