District promotes butchery businesses with regional production

Sustainable and animal-friendly: These two points are the focus of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district's support for regional meat businesses. Butcher's shops that slaughter their animals themselves or locally, process them on their premises and market them themselves have had the opportunity to receive up to 10,000 euros in funding from the district since October 2020.

Especially smaller local businesses that use the shortest possible transport routes for slaughtering and offer consumers products with regional origins have to fulfil a multitude of legal requirements in production and marketing. This often only works with cost-intensive equipment both in production and behind the counter. The "Guideline for the promotion of meat-processing craft enterprises with predominantly regional meat supplies in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district" enables the district to support precisely these enterprises.

Among other things, new cash register systems, various working machines or the installation of cold storage rooms are promoted. In other words, measures that contribute to the modernisation and improvement of working and production conditions and improve competitiveness. If an investment in the farm is imminent, an application for funding can be submitted to the agricultural department of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. "With this guideline, we promote sustainable and animal-friendly management and at the same time support value creation in our region," explains District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. Since 2020, 25 farms have already been supported by the district and a total of 34 applications have been approved.
