District and town of Bad Wildungen invite to Intercultural Week

8 days, 30 events, one motto: Living diversity in harmony. This includes the nationwide Intercultural Week from 25 September to 2 October. This year, the district is organising it together with the town of Bad Wildungen.

Diversity awakens creativity for problem solving
Unfortunately, in Germany and internationally, the inhibition threshold for racism is sinking - in words and deeds. However, the future of society lies in the diversity that has grown in Germany over generations. Because: Diversity awakens creativity for problem solving. It unites and makes us strong. It is important to remind the public of this unifying power of diversity. This is the goal of the nationwide Intercultural Week, which the district has been organising at the local level since 2020 together with the Network for Tolerance in Waldeck-Frankenberg - always in a different place, this year in Bad Wildungen.

Be open - to other cultures, perspectives, people
From 25 September to 2 October, the district and the city, together with numerous other partners, have put together a colourful and diverse programme to send a signal: To be open to other cultures, other perspectives and other people. "Intercultural encounters and diversity are an opportunity for all of us," emphasise District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First District Commissioner Karl-Friedrich Frese. "With the Intercultural Week, the district wants to position itself publicly - and send a clear signal for a tolerant and diverse society." Bad Wildungen's mayor Ralf Gutheil also concurs: "People from 104 nations live in Bad Wildungen. But culture is not only defined by origin and religion, but also by age and interests. And we want to offer all these different facets a platform with the intercultural week."

Opening party on 25 September
The event will start on Sunday, 25 September from 12 noon to 6 p.m. with a big opening party at the town hall - including percussion and reggae music. Food and drink will also be provided. In the days that follow, there will be numerous guided tours of the city on various themes, concerts, fairy tale readings, dance theatre, exhibitions, workshops, open days, markets, street music and many other encounter events.

Registration in advance is necessary for two events: Children and young people can register for the media project "Multilingual Audio Guides for Bad Wildungen" at the youth centre. The project runs from 29 September to 30 September from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on 1 October from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. All information is available online at www.spritzenhaus-online.de. Those interested in education are also invited to register for the workshop "Antisemitism erkennen und handeln" (Recognising and acting on anti-Semitism), which will take place on 29 September from 3 to 7 p.m. by sending an email to poststelle@lh.badwildungen.schulverwaltung.hessen.de or by calling 05621-2081.

The district and the city cordially invite you to take part in the events - and to get into conversation and exchange with each other. The detailed programme of events for the joint event week of the district and the city can be found here. The nationwide Intercultural Week is an initiative of the German Bishops' Conference, the Protestant Church in Germany and the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Church. It has been held at the end of September since 1975.
