From 24 September to 1 October: Intercultural Week in Bad Arolsen

The Intercultural Week in Waldeck-Frankenberg will take place this year together with the town of Bad Arolsen - from 24 September to 1 October under the motto "New Spaces - Bad Arolsen Naturally Diversity". Planning for the nationwide event is already underway - also in the district. There will be a first kick-off workshop on 27 March. Interested parties are cordially invited to attend.

New spaces - for other cultures, perspectives, people
Unfortunately, the inhibition threshold for racism is sinking in Germany and internationally - in words and deeds. However, the future of society lies in the diversity that has grown in Germany over generations. Because: Diversity awakens creativity for problem solving. It unites and makes us strong. It is important to remind the public of this unifying power of diversity. This is the goal of the nationwide Intercultural Week, which the district's Migration and Integration Office has been organising at the local level since 2020 together with the Network for Tolerance in Waldeck-Frankenberg - every year at a different location in Waldeck-Frankenberg, this year in Bad Arolsen.

"Last year's Intercultural Week in Bad Wildungen was a complete success," say District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and First District Commissioner Karl-Friedrich Frese. "We are looking forward to focusing on intercultural dialogue together with the local people in Bad Arolsen in 2023. Our goal is to open up existing spaces throughout the district, to promote diversity and make it visible. Discrimination and racism have no place in Waldeck-Frankenberg." Bad Arolsen's mayor Marko Lambion is also looking forward to the event: "The intercultural week wants to open, design and create new spaces where different people with the most diverse stories meet, exchange and learn from each other." The head of the town hall is pleased that there is a chance to create these spaces in Bad Arolsen this year.

Kick-off workshop on 27 March
From 24 September to 1 October, the district and the city, together with numerous other partners, want to put together a colourful and diverse programme to send a signal: We must open up and connect the spaces and resources we have for other cultures, other perspectives and other people. In preparation for this, a kick-off workshop will be held on Monday, 27 March at 6 p.m. in the community centre of Bad Arolsen, to which interested parties are cordially invited to contribute ideas and suggestions and to actively help shape the programme for the action week in September. Please register for the workshop by 24 March by calling 05631 - 954 267 or sending an e-mail to fmi@lkwafkb.de. Further information is also available online on the district's website at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de.

Background:
The nationwide Intercultural Week is an initiative of the German Bishops' Conference, the Protestant Church in Germany and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis. It has taken place at the end of September each year since 1975. As a funded partnership for democracy in the federal programme "Live Democracy!", the Network for Tolerance is committed to living diversity. The Intercultural Week offers a great platform to try out projects that bring different people together and open up new spaces for thinking. Project funds are available that can be applied for by associations and initiatives for projects within the framework of Intercultural Week. The network is happy to support you in planning and implementing your project.
