Strong women: Exhibition for International Women's Day on 8 March

To mark International Women's Day on 8 March this year, the district and the Wolfgang Bonhage Museum are showing a selection from the exhibition "Strong women in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg". Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend.

Following in the footsteps of strong women from the district
On International Women's Day, women around the world demonstrate in favour of equal rights and against discrimination. This year, the day of action in Waldeck-Frankenberg will be used to once again follow in the footsteps of strong women in Waldeck-Frankenberg. For example, the exhibition portrays Princess Bathildis von Waldeck und Pyrmont, who supported the sick and the weak, but also the advancement of women and pursued her social goals with knowledge, energy and courage. Visitors also learn about the story of Margarete Strauß, who became involved in social, voluntary and political work after the turmoil of war, flight and expulsion. Or they can learn a lot about the life of Frankenberg doctor Dr Petra Vahle-Hinz, who was committed to helping people in emotional distress and mental illness. What they all have in common is that they broke with the conventions of their time and courageously went their own way.

"Women have achieved great things in history - also in Waldeck-Frankenberg"
The exhibition "Strong women in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg" was conceived and shown in 2019 by the district together with the museums in Waldeck-Frankenberg. Due to several requests and the great success of the exhibition a few years ago, the district's Women and Equal Opportunities Department, together with the Wolfgang Bonhage Museum, decided to show an excerpt from the exhibition again at the Korbach museum on International Women's Day on 8 March. "Not only on International Women's Day, but in general, it is important to raise public awareness of the fact that women have always achieved great things in history - including in the region of our current district of Waldeck-Frankenberg. For far too long, too little attention has been paid to this," emphasises museum director Dr Arnulf Scriba.

Art and music unite
The exhibition starts at 6.30 pm with a small champagne reception and will then be opened by the district's women's representative Beate Friedrich and her deputy Miriam Drüppel together with museum director Arnulf Scriba. The event will be accompanied by inspiring music from the duo tonArt from Korbach: "We are combining art and music on this evening to celebrate the strength and diversity of women in our world," says Beate Friedrich and cordially invites all interested parties to the event.
