What is school cycling?
Since 2022, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg - and all of its towns and municipalities - has been taking part in the international CITY CYCLING campaign organised by the Climate Alliance. In this way, everyone in Waldeck-Frankenberg can do something good for the environment by entering all the kilometres they cycle into the competition during the campaign period. For 21 days, they should cycle as many kilometres as possible in a climate-friendly way - and "cycle" as many kilometres as possible. Every kilometre cycled is counted individually
The "little sister" of the STADTRADELN is the school cycling competition. It is a special competition that has been taking place in the district at the same time as STADTRADELN since 2022 and in which only the results of the schools in Waldeck-Frankenberg are evaluated. During the three-week campaign period, pupils, their parents and teachers are to cycle as many kilometres as possible for "their" school.
Cycle to School 2026
Under the motto "Cycle for 3 weeks, score 3 times: for your school, for your town, for your district and for the record target of 3,000,000 kilometres", the "School Cycling" competition was launched in Hesse at the beginning of May. In the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, it is being held at the same time as the CITY CYCLING competition. The school cycling competition uses the same platform as the CITY CYCLING competition (registration etc.). During the three-week campaign period, pupils, their parents and teachers should cycle as many kilometres as possible for "their" school.
The aim of the school competition is to equip pupils with the skills to cycle in their everyday lives and at leisure, thereby promoting independent mobility amongst children and young people. Teachers and parents also support the school teams by clocking up kilometres on their bikes. The idea is simply to leave the car – or the ‘parent taxi’ – at home for a change and cycle to your destination. What’s more, cycling is an active way to protect the climate and is also good for your health.
