District informs online about careers in the district administration

Study or training? Many pupils are currently asking themselves whether they should study (dual) or start a traditional apprenticeship? In the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, both are possible! On the website of the district administration at www.landkreis-waldeck-frankenberg.de/ausbildung, a comprehensive area has therefore been set up with immediate effect to provide information about all career opportunities.

Whether it's IT, social work, office management, digitalisation or civil engineering - in addition to the classic administrative professions, the areas of responsibility in the district administration are diverse. Many of them are trained by the district itself. "We as a district administration are also in competition for potential trainees, students and skilled workers," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. "Therefore, in the future, we will increasingly focus on training the professions we need ourselves - and then giving the graduates a perspective for attractive subsequent employment."

"Many doors are open!"
Offering entirely new study and training opportunities is also part of the strategy: for example, in addition to apprenticeships in the administrative sector, the district also offers apprenticeships in IT system integration, food inspection or office management. Trainee Marcel Hagenacker reports on his training as an IT specialist: "The training is very varied. During my working hours, I am on the road at the district schools, among other places, mastering a wide variety of tasks and having a lot of contact with people. It gives me a good feeling to be able to help others." The chance to look into many fields of work is very important for Moritz Ulbricht, who is training to become an administrative assistant: "We get to know all areas of the administration. This way, many doors are open to us afterwards!

"Team spirit and independent work"
But even those who decide to study after graduating from high school can find what they are looking for in the district: The district currently offers four Bachelor's degree programmes in cooperation with universities and universities of applied sciences in the region. In the fields of social work, digital administration, civil engineering or public administration, high school graduates can study dual courses. Student Noah Lukes describes the study programme in civil engineering as follows: "I chose it because I would like to plan, manage and lead construction projects later on. The degree programme offers the ideal conditions for this. The practical phases allow you to apply and deepen theory directly. The district administration as an employer is also interesting for me because I can work, study and live in my home country. I particularly like the independent work and the team spirit."

Tiana de Matos Martins and Jessica Hecker-Robinson, who both study social work at the district, add: "The mixture of online lectures and face-to-face events at the university allow us to have varied learning. The learning times can be taken individually and flexibly in consultation with the specialised services. This makes it possible for us to combine our professional and private lives.

The district as an employer also relies on this. "We want to offer our employees not only a secure job with good pay, but also various training and further education opportunities, family-friendly working hours - also from home - as well as attractive promotion and career opportunities," emphasises District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst. Currently, the district employs 35 trainees and students; from summer onwards, another five positions are to be added, so that there will then be as many as 40 new trainees working for the district. "Interested school graduates are very welcome here - and cordially invited to find out more about what we have to offer in a personal interview, at one of the upcoming training fairs or online on our website," says the district administrator.
