Paediatric care: District and KV work on solution

Sufficient paediatrician practices are an important building block for ensuring health care in Waldeck-Frankenberg. After the recent departure of one of the two paediatric practices in Korbach, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Hesse are now working on an interim solution as quickly as possible.

Karl-Friedrich Frese, First District Commissioner and Head of the Health Department of the district, and Frank Dastych, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of Hesse, have agreed on this. A special arrangement is being considered, according to which the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians will fill the vacant medical seat as quickly as possible within the framework of its mandate to provide health care - even if only temporarily until a new paediatrician's practice has settled there.

"The long-term goal is, of course, to establish a second permanent paediatric practice in Korbach," emphasises Karl-Friedrich Frese. "In the short term, however, we must now create a pragmatic and quick solution here so that the outpatient care offer of paediatrics and adolescent medicine is increased again and the families in Waldeck-Frankenberg are well provided with medical care here." This is particularly important in view of the fact that children are in a decisive phase of their physical and mental development and therefore need special medical care in order to grow up healthy.

The outgoing paediatric practice in Briloner Landstraße was affiliated to the Medical Care Centre of the Korbach City Hospital. The paediatrician employed there had only started work there last summer - and will end it again as early as 23 August this year. According to Frese and Dastych, it is all the more important to find a quick interim solution now - if possible, in cooperation with the Korbach city hospital or other cooperation partners. The district and the KV are currently working hard to find a solution.
