Speed on B252 diversion routes to be further limited

In order to slow down traffic, ensure better orientation for road users and increase safety, the speed on the inner-city diversion routes in Alraft, Immighausen, Nordenbeck, Ober-Ense and Thalitter, which are being created by the construction work on the B 252, will be limited again: Until now, the speed limit was 30 km/h between 7 am and 2 pm. From the beginning of April, the speed limit will apply around the clock.

Speed 30 around the clock
A further analysis of the traffic situation has shown that the flow of traffic on the affected stretches will be significantly simplified if the speed limit applies around the clock for the period of the construction work - and not only in the morning. Road users then have to pay attention to their speed and the current traffic situation, not to the time of day at the same time. This should ensure smoother driving and an even flow of traffic. Another positive side effect is that the continuous speed limit can also increase road safety.

The temporal extension of the speed limit to 30 kilometres per hour is expected to apply from 3 April. Spatially, however, it will not be extended to other stretches of road. According to the Road Traffic Act, speed limits are usually set in areas in front of facilities requiring protection, i.e. schools, kindergartens, senior citizen facilities or, in exceptional cases, bus stops. This is also the case in the route areas in the village thoroughfares of Alraft, Immighausen, Nordenbeck, Ober-Ense and Thalitter. For all other routes, however, a higher traffic load - as is the case with the diversion - is not the sole criterion for a further speed limit. This is also because experience shows that with heavier traffic, driving speeds are usually lower anyway.

"We know that the increased traffic load is not pleasant for all people living along the diversions routes," says District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst, summarising the renewed consultations of the participating authorities and municipalities. "Unfortunately, however, there is currently no other way to do it because of the construction work on the federal highway." After weighing up the needs of all those involved, the aim is to jointly explore all sensible design options in order to find a workable solution for everyone for the coming months until the end of the construction work. "With the extension of the speed limit, the situation should be further calmed and the traffic flow stabilised.
