Resilience as the central theme of the well-attended Psychiatry Day

How best to deal with the stress and challenges of personal life and external events such as global conflicts and extreme weather events and how to strengthen mental resilience was the central theme of this year's Psychiatry Day. It was organised by the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg at the Philipp Soldan Forum in Frankenberg. Over 170 guests took part in the event.

Feelings are signals for needs
"Resilience does not mean having an impenetrable protective shield for life's adversities and completely banishing feelings such as fear, sadness or stress from your life. It means much more about taking feelings and needs seriously and considering whether you can change your attitude towards them," is how psychologist Michael Rost skilfully summed up the topic of this year's Psychiatry Day in the district as part of the event. Strengthening mental resilience was the central message of the event, which is organised once a year by the district's specialist health service.

Mastering crises and the stresses of everyday life
In our society, mental resilience and balance are becoming increasingly important for coping with crises and other stresses in everyday life. Consciously applied strategies can help us to cope, but can also help us to prevent crises. The three experts Prof Dr Florian Metzger, Michael Rost and Jens-Hartwich-Tersek spoke about how this can be achieved in the best possible way - and shed light on the topic both from a scientific perspective and in a humorous and entertaining way.

Above all, it was also about a change of perspective: "Because stress is the result of an individual evaluation process - and the question of whether you take events with a negative or positive mindset," emphasised psychologist Jens Hartwich-Tersek. "Sometimes people also need a temporary retreat - a safe space to recharge their batteries, recover and organise their thoughts." In subsequent smaller group workshops, the guests had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the relevant strategies after the presentations.

Between the presentations and workshops, the guests had the opportunity to talk to each other and get to know the various service providers in psychiatric and social psychiatric care in Waldeck-Frankenberg. The hospitality provided by the Frankenberg countrywomen and the catering by the "El Toro" restaurant also ensured a pleasant atmosphere in which a lively exchange took place. The Psychiatry Day organised by the district took place again for the first time after a four-year break. The aim is to familiarise the population with new findings in the field of mental health and to convey strategies for becoming aware of one's own self-efficacy.
