Community nurses on the road in the district

The district of Waldeck-Frankenberg has community carers to enable older people in particular, or those in need of help, to lead independent lives and participate in society. With the support of the state of Hesse, they are employed by the district's specialist health service and provide local support services - with immediate effect using small, manoeuvrable service vehicles, to which First District Councillor Karl-Friedrich Frese symbolically handed over the keys.

Around 10,000 kilometres a year: the community nurses are always where they are needed. And they drive quite a few kilometres to do so. So if you see a small grey Twingo with a Korbach number plate in the future, you know that the community carer is back in town. Their tasks are very varied: for example, they support elderly people or people in need of help with applications, plan support programmes with relatives or GPs or strengthen local networks. "Through the support of the community carers, older people or people in need of help should be able to live well cared for in their familiar living environment for as long as possible and in a self-determined manner," explained the First District Councillor.

Since last month, there have been five community carers in the district who travel to people's homes and support them on site. The service is free of charge and is available to anyone in the district who needs it. They offer home visits for counselling, but can also be found by appointment at the offices in Adorf, Sachsenhausen, Frankenau and Battenberg. Referrals can also be made via the care support centre. The contact persons there are Kathrin Hartmann on 05631 954-1556 and Matthias Engel on 05631 954-1881.

Community care is organised as follows: Brigitte Saure is responsible for the Diemelsee, Korbach, Lichtenfels and Willingen (Upland) areas and can be contacted on 0171 2134789. Kathrin Kornemann is responsible for the Bad Arolsen, Diemelstadt, Twistetal, Volkmarsen and Waldeck areas and can be contacted on 0171 2710749.
