Foster families visit the summer toboggan run at Lake Eder
Shortly before the Hessian summer holidays, foster families in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district were treated to a very special day out. The Waldeck-Frankenberg district, through its foster care service within the Youth Services Department, had organised a trip to the summer toboggan run at Lake Eder. For a whole (family) afternoon, children and young people were able to let off steam there, whilst their foster mums and dads also enjoyed the summery, relaxing atmosphere.
Forty children aged between 1 and 17 went tobogganing on Lake Eder as often as they liked and had a wonderful time at the petting zoo and on the playground. Four staff members from the Foster Care and Adoption Service department helped the younger children with their tobogganing. This allowed the parents to take a breather now and then and have a chat with one another – an important aspect of caring for foster children. The staff members also took the opportunity to clarify any outstanding questions.
The weather was absolutely brilliant that day – the average temperature was 33°C. Fortunately, the operators of the summer toboggan run were well prepared, so a sprinkler system provided a bit of relief as the bobsleighs were hauled up the track. The family afternoon offered a different way of spending time together and led to some lovely, relaxed chats amongst everyone. By the end of the day, everyone involved agreed: the foster family party at the summer toboggan run on Lake Eder was a resounding success.
